Welcome Back to School

August 10, 2021

Dear Parents and Students,

I hope everyone had a memorable summer and was able to spend time with family and friends.  With that being said, it is time to start thinking about the 2021-2022 school year. I continue to be excited that I have the opportunity to be the Superintendent of Johnson County School District #1. District Administration and Supervisors have put in an extraordinary amount of time and effort during the summer making the changes needed to ensure “all” students will receive a quality educational experience. I continue to believe the district will face many challenges however, I remain confident that together as an Educational Team and Community we can navigate successfully by doing what is best for all kids!  The official start date for students is August 23rd  for Kaycee students and August 25th  for Buffalo students.

COVID Task Force Information

As of August 10, 2021, masks will not be required for students and staff in Johnson County School District #1. The safety and health of staff, students and community remains to be a top priority for the district as we get ready to start the year.

The Johnson County COVID Task Force is in consensus that whether masks will be required at some point throughout the school year will depend on a variety of factors, including the number of cases in the community, the number of students and staff in isolation or quarantine at one time, and the number of people hospitalized. The Task Force includes representatives from the Johnson County School District, Johnson County Healthcare Center, Johnson County Public Health, Johnson County Emergency Management and Sheridan College in Johnson County.

The federal requirements of masks on federal transportation (buses) are being reviewed at the state level and when more information or direction is given, the staff, students, parents, and the community will be informed. Until then, the district will continue to only recommend that masks be worn and social distancing protocols take place when feasible. The district will follow all the current state and federal requirements for contact tracing, isolation of positive cases and quarantine for those exposed.
