The Right Road

We’re off to a great start  and hope your student(s) are looking forward to the best year ahead.  We would like to inform you of a meeting we will have on Wed. Sept. 14 at 5:30pm at the high school to tell you about an upcoming event your student will be invited to participate in.  Formerly known as ‘Freshman Impact’, Buffalo High School now has their own organization called “The Right Road”.  It’s a full day event for our Johnson County sophomore and junior students focusing on all aspects of high risk choices for teens. Along with the BHS students we have invited our New West, Kaycee and Arvada/Clearmont students to attend.  We will have an estimated 240 students attending.

Our meeting on Wednesday will include a short slide show and educate parents/guardians on the highlights of the event day.

On event day the students will participate in several different stations and interactive tasks throughout the day learning about risks/consequences of certain behaviors.  We strongly encourage you as their parent/guardian to attend this short presentation on Wednesday to inform you about the kind of day your students will partake in.  This isn’t a normal school day.  They will be encouraged to listen, engage, answer questions, and witness some serious content relevant to digital devices, driving, texting, drugs, mental health, relationship risks and more.  There is content discussed and witnessed throughout the day that may trigger emotional responses.  We want you to be fully aware of the impact of this day in a positive way.  Our goal is to inform and encourage both the risks and the positive outcomes by making the best choices.

The following sessions will be covered, as well as an afternoon that includes a mock crash scene, trauma victims, and the consequences caused by making the wrong choice.
