Schools participating in these programs are required to provide meals that contain one-third of the Recommended Dietary Intakes (RDIs) for protein, calcium, iron, vitamin A, vitamin C and calories with no more than 30% of the calories from fat and less than 10% of the calories from saturated fat.

FRESH FRUIT AND VEGETABLE PROGRAM

Our District also participates in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP), which provides all children in Cloud Peak Elementary with a variety of free, fresh fruits and vegetables at a designated snack time during the school day. It is an effective and creative way of introducing fresh fruits and vegetables as healthy snack options, and is seen as an important catalyst for change in efforts to combat childhood obesity by helping children learn more healthful eating habits. JCSD#1 is able to offer this program in its approved elementary schools for the current school year, through funding from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS), administered by the Wyoming Department of Education.
