BUS STUDENT EXPECTATIONS
The following safe riding practices and rules are expected from all students.
MEETING THE BUS
Be at the bus stop 5 minutes before the bus arrives.
Do not cross the roadway until the bus driver directs you to cross. Walk, don’t run.
Do not run along the side of the bus when it is moving.
Line up single file when loading the bus.
Be courteous and do not cut in line or shove others.
WHILE ON THE BUS
Observe classroom conduct rules and obey the driver. The driver is in full charge of the bus and is responsible for student safety and the safe operation of the bus.
Go directly to an available or assigned seat, if required by the driver, without crowding or pushing.
Remain seated while the bus is in motion.
Students’ arms, legs, and heads must remain inside the bus at all times.
Do not distract the driver while the bus is in motion except in case of emergency.
Do not tamper with the emergency door or other bus equipment.
Do not deface or damage the bus. Damage done to bus seats or other equipment will be paid by the student responsible.
The driver may prohibit all food or beverages on the bus at any time as he/she sees fit.
Do not fight, scuffle, or create any disturbance that interferes with the safe operation of the bus or the safety of the other students. Each student must respect the rights and safety of others.
Do not shout at pedestrians or other vehicles or throw objects inside or outside of the bus.
When getting off the bus, you must remain in your seat until the bus comes to a complete stop.
Do not place feet, lunch boxes, backpacks, or any other objects in the aisle of the bus.
Objects other than the customary school supplies must be authorized by the bus driver before being permitted on the bus. Animals are not allowed on the bus at any time.
When crossing a roadway after leaving the bus, students must walk 10 steps in front of the bus and wait for the driver to direct them to cross the roadway. Walk, don’t run, when crossing the roadway.
Do not use any form of tobacco while on the bus. Students that are under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or any controlled substance will not be allowed on the bus and will be reported to the school’s SRO officer or a law enforcement officer.
Do not use profane or offense language.
Students may board or leave the bus only at their assigned pick up spot or school except in an emergency. *Exceptions to this rule require a signed and dated permission statement from a parent or guardian. The permission statement must then be presented to the bus driver.
Weapon, knives, or firearms are not permitted on the bus at any time.
Glass bottles are not allowed on the bus. Only plastic drink containers with spill proof tops are allowed on the bus.
As school bus drivers, it is our duty to transport your child safely to and from school. Driving a school bus requires patience, dedication, and skill and is one in which the driver assumes a tremendous responsibility. It is not an easy task to have a group of students in a small confined area with your back to them while safely driving though various traffic and weather conditions.
We would like to ask for your cooperation and assistance in providing the safest transportation to and from school for your children. You can help by stressing safety and proper conduct to your children while they are waiting, getting on or off or riding the bus. We must consider the safety of all the students and disciplinary action may be taken against any student who willfully disregards the bus driver’s instructions. The student may lose busing privileges for a specified time, if any rule is disregarded.
