Dear Parents,

Welcome back to a new school year!  The end of last year brought some new challenges for us as a school.  I am very excited for the 2020-21 school year and to be back in school!  We have a couple new staff members to welcome to Kaycee School.  Joining our team is Karisa Brown who takes the place of Michelle Gardner in our secondary Math department.  Also Michael Murray will be replacing Karmen Marbry in our secondary Science department.  We have made a few changes to our Parent/Student handbook.  Please click on the link to take you to the handbook.  Parents and students must sign off to abide by the handbook at the beginning of the school year.

New for this year is our District’s Smart Start Plan for dealing with the Covid-19 Pandemic.  Please follow this link: (Smart Start Highlights) for the highlights to the plan or this link for the entirety of the document: Smart Start Plan.  If you happen to have any questions over the plan please feel free to contact the school or attend the open house. I want to thank you for your feedback through a variety of surveys, phone and personal conversations.  The information you have provided has been valuable in the process of developing this plan.  With that said, we realize that there will be parts of the plan that you struggle with.  I have always believed that our number one priority in public schools is to provide a learning environment that is both safe and supportive.  That continues to be at the forefront of this plan as well.

This year we will start with 5-12th grade students being able to take their Chromebook computers home.  Younger students will still have access to them at the school in charging carts.  These devices are meant to be educational tools and should be used as such.  We have a 1:1 Handbook that discusses all the expectations.  Please click on the link for details.  Students in grades 5-12 must pay a $40 insurance fee that covers the cost of the device if damaged accidentally.  Families may waive the insurance fee, but must then pay the full price for a replacement device.  This fee begins in 5th grade and stays the same through the 9th grade.  After 9th grade, the fee decreases until students graduate.  9th graders are given a new device upon entering high school that should last until graduation.  Details are on page 17 of the 1:1 handbook.  Parents must sign off and make a decision about the insurance fee before a device is given to the student.
