3 boys with sled

In Feb, the 6th Grade class began their small scale models for the annual  box-sled race in Mr. Walker’s Science class as part of a cross-curricular unit between Math, Science, and Language Arts.

Mrs. Thiele’s Math class worked on designing and finding the surface area of the box-sleds. Science is taking these designs and building them to test them.

Once tested, the students took their data to Mr. Scarlett’s Language Arts class to create a persuasive essay to present to their peers based on their small scale models built in Science.

Students were then put into teams of 3 and given two mornings to build their sled.  Students were only allowed to use cardboard and duct tape in their design.  On March 1st each team raced their sled at Pole Creek sledding hill.   Congrats to the 2023 winning team!
