To enroll see Ashlea Bassett at Sheridan College in Johnson County to complete a registration form and enroll in the class. Prior to June 15th.

Learn more about Computer Aided Design, Large Format Printing, and explore the technology behind Graphic Design for Classroom and Professional Use. The class will feature training on CorelDRAW X6. The class will focus on software instruction but will also explore inclusion methodologies and custom applications for those enrolled.

August 4th, 6th, 8th, 11th, and 13th, from 8:00 am-10:00 am at the CPES Learning Academy. One PTSB credit.

We have studied the book “How the Brain Learns.”  Now what?!  What have we forgotten?  What new information is out there?!  In this class, we will spend time researching current studies on how we can structure our teaching to help students with learning and how to retain their learning.  Research will include videos, books, online resources, and even TV shows!

This class will combine Phonics/PA research and discussions on: Where did they come from? What are the components? Which interventions to use and why? When to use which strategy and how? How are we using formative assessments?  The “who” is you!

August 4th, 6th, 11th, and 13th, from 1:00 to 4:00 pm at the CPES Learning Academy.  One PTSB credit.

Many JCSD1 teachers are finding a need to modify, clarify, or add deeper meaning to the strategies on the CAFE menu.  This class will look at how we can change the menu to meet the reading needs of our students while keeping the overall terminology consistent across grade levels.  We will also look at questioning techniques and new criteria for forming strategy groups.

Do you ever stop and think about all that you really do when you are reading a book?  This book will take you on such a journey to help you notice and name the invisible thinking work that goes into making meaning of texts.  This knowledge will help you design and implement instruction for your students.

The goal of this class is to teach and model effective differentiation for all students. Topics covered in the course will include:

·    Special Education, ELL, and Gifted and Talented

·    Law, terminology and best practice

·    Universal Design for Learning and Understanding by Design

·    Pre-assessment, planning for instruction, and post-assessment

·    Curriculum compacting and overlapping

·    Active learning strategies you can use in your classroom

You will have time on the second day of the course to build differentiation strategies into your units and lessons.
