JCSD#1 2016-2017 District Comprehensive Plan

JCSD #1 Celebrates Excellence

During October 7-10, 2012, Johnson County School District #1 experienced systems accreditation through the AdvancED protocol.  This protocol for accreditation is for school systems committed to system, systematic, and sustainable improvement, and is required for all Wyoming school districts.  We would like to share our celebration of obtaining high scores in the five system standards (Exit Interview, 2012).

What do these scores mean?

AdvancED assesses districts on the standards utilizing a 4-level rubric.  A level of 4 is extremely difficult to obtain, and a level of three is considered excellent. The standards are research-based, comprehensive quality statements that describe conditions that are necessary for educational institutions and systems to achieve quality student  performance and organizational effectiveness. These standards support an education process that is truly visionary; characterizing how organizations should operate to promote a culture of continuous learning that is fluid – engaging leaders, staff and students (AdvancED, 2011).

AdvancED Standards for Quality School Systems

  • Standard 1: Purpose and Direction: The system maintains and communicates at all levels of the organization a purpose and direction for continuous improvement that commit to high expectations for learning as well as shared values and beliefs about teaching and learning.
  • Standard 2: Governance and Leadership: The system operates under governance and leadership that promote and support student performance and school effectiveness.
  • Standard 3: Teaching and Assessing for Learning: The system’s curriculum, instructional design, and assessment practices guide and ensure teacher effectiveness and student learning across all grades and courses.
  • Standard 4: Resources and Support Systems: The system has resources and provides services in all schools that support its purpose and direction to ensure success for all students.
  • Standard 5: Using Results for Continuous Improvement: The system implements a comprehensive assessment system that generates a range of data about student learning and system effectiveness and uses the results to guide continuous improvement.

The indicators and related performance levels for each of these standards give thorough descriptions of exemplary practices and processes, together providing a comprehensive picture of each standard. We take particular pride in 190 stakeholders that were interviewed by the AdvancED review team as they confirmed our exemplary practices:

  • 8 school board members
  • 9 district staff members
  • 7 school administrators
  • 56 teachers
  • 11 support staff
  • 9 parents
  • 90 students
